Services provided for HISD Schools

 

Language Kids Houston, LLC will provide foreign language (Spanish and Mandarin Chinese) enrichment after school language acquisition programs and tutoring services for students at schools and/or other district locations located within the following zip codes: 77091, 77076, 77093, 77018, 77022, 77092, 77008, 77055, 77009, 77002, 77007, 77024, 77077, 77042, 77063, 77057, 77056, 77027, 77019, 77006, 77003, 77046, 77098, 77036, 77081, 77041, 77005, 77030, 77004, 77021, 77054, 77074, 77096, 77025, 77035, 77071, 77031.

  • Note that other zip codes outside of HISD may be available for inter-agency agreements.

 

Foreign language classes and tutoring sessions will be provided by one of our trained native-speaker instructors. An instructor will be assigned to each group, but Language Kids Houston, LLC may send a substitute instructor at times when necessary. All instructors and substitute instructors will teach the specific lesson corresponding to that class (see attached sample lesson plan). For tutoring services, the session will be adjusted to the specific needs of each student at the time of the session. In case Language Kids Houston, LLC needs to send a substitute instructor to a tutoring session, the regular assigned instructor will brief the substitute instructor regarding any relevant information needed for the session.

 

Classes will be held at the pre-scheduled location (school and/or district location), day and time for the class (between Monday and Friday from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM during the school calendar year). Language Kids Houston, LLC is under no obligation to reschedule a class, but if the school and/or the district requests a class to be rescheduled at least 5 business days in advance, Language Kids Houston, LLC will do every effort to accommodate the request. The location, day and time of the class will be agreed on in writing between the school and/or district authorized representatives and Language Kids Houston, LLC. There will be no refunds or classes rescheduled due to school closures due to inclement weather or any other reason, except holidays marked in the HISD school year calendar and early dismissal days, if the school and/or district chooses not to hold a class in those days.

 

The class fee includes all costs (transportation, instructor fees and class materials, including online downloadable exercises). See below for more information about downloadable exercises for each type of program. Books and materials not included in the program fee and are not mandatory nor necessary for the program. Language Kids Houston, LLC does sell books and materials online, which may be purchased by the school and/or district but that are not mandatory nor necessary for the program.

 

Types of Programs

 

School Funded Programs

The block of four 1-hour classes must be used consecutively with at least one class per week, adjusting in consideration with the HISD school year calendar to account for holidays. In the case of early dismissal, the school and/or district may choose if they wish to hold a class on that day or not, and Language Kids Houston, LLC must be notified with at least 5 business days in advance if the class is not to be held due to an early dismissal. Classes will be held at the pre-scheduled location (school and/or district location), day and time for the class (between Monday and Friday from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM during the school calendar year). Language Kids Houston, LLC is under no obligation to reschedule a class, but if the school and/or the district requests a class to be rescheduled at least 5 business days in advance, Language Kids Houston, LLC will do every effort to accommodate the request. The location, day and time of the class will be agreed on in writing upon the completion of the purchase order between the school and/or district authorized representatives and Language Kids Houston, LLC. The school and/or district may include in the purchase order the details of the location and desired schedule. Language Kids Houston, LLC will communicate with the school and/or district to let them know if we are able to accommodate that schedule or if we have any alternative schedules that may work for the school and/or district. Language Kids Houston, LLC will make an effort to provide the program at the desired schedule.

The maximum student/instructor ratio is 12 students per instructor. One instructor will be assigned per group. If a school would like to have a larger group or more than one group, two or more units must be purchased, following the rule of maximum 12 students per instructor.

The lessons provided will be based on Language Kids Houston, LLC proprietary lesson plans based on thematic units, which incorporate core elements of the curriculum (including vocabulary and sentence structures) as well as vocabulary specific to the thematic unit. A new thematic unit will be taught each semester and, depending on the specific thematic unit and grade level and as a suggestion by the instructor, Language Kids Houston, LLC may decide to incorporate a thematic unit every couple months. Some of the thematic units include “Around the World”, “Science Explorers”, “World of Animals”, “The Five Senses”, “Space Odyssey”, “Dragon Academy”, “Legends of China”, “Adventures in Latin America”, “Under the Sea”, “Time Travelers”, “Around the Great Wall”, “Hero Squad”, “My Big City”, “Safari Adventure”, “My Big Family” and many more.  Books and materials are not necessary and are not included in the class fee.  Language Kids Houston, LLC does sell books and materials online, which may be purchased by the school and/or district but that are not mandatory nor necessary for the program.

Exercises and handouts will be available online at www.LanguageKids.com, and the school and/or district can download, print and distribute them to the students in the class. Handouts and print outs may not be distributed to any other students, parents and/or staff not enrolled in the class. Exercises will be posted for each lesson at least one week before the lesson date. The school and/or district may choose to receive the exercises via email. If this is the case, they must send a request to vanessa@language-kids.com. Language Kids Houston, LLC and/or its instructors are not responsible for printing and/or distributing handouts, exercises or printouts for and to the students.

 

Parent Funded Programs

A school and/or district may choose to make the program available for parents as a parent-funded after school enrichment program. The parent-funded programs are sold on a term basis (Fall 2016 and Spring 2017).

Fall 2016 term: 12 classes from the week of September 12 to the week of December 5, 2016 (no class the week of Thanksgiving). If, depending on the specific day of the week, there are less than 12 classes in the term due to holidays and/or early dismissal days, and considering the above mentioned start and end date, the prince should be reduced accordingly.

Spring 2017 term: 14 classes, from the week of January 30 to the week of May 8, 2017 (no class the week of spring break). If, depending on the specific day of the week, there are less than 14 classes in the term due to holidays and/or early dismissal days, and considering the above mentioned start and end date, the prince should be reduced accordingly.

The location, day and time of the class will be agreed on in writing between the school and/or district authorized representatives and Language Kids Houston, LLC.

The maximum student/instructor ratio is 12 students per instructor. One instructor will be assigned per group. Larger groups (up to 24 students) will be assigned an instructor and an assistant instructor.

The tutoring program is designed for one student per instructor. One instructor will be assigned for each student. If a school would like to have more students to participate in the program, additional units must be purchased.

 The lessons will be designed considering the specific goals and needs of the student, considering age, grade level and any other relevant factors that the parents, school and/or district communicates to Language Kids Houston, LLC. General exercises and handouts will be available online at www.LanguageKids.com, and the parents, school and/or district can download and print and distribute them to the student in the program. Exercises found online will be general and not designed specifically for the student. Language Kids Houston, LLC and/or its instructors are not responsible for printing and/or distributing handouts, exercises or printouts for and to the students.

Each parent student must pay for each registered student’s fee for the entire Fall 2016 and/or Spring 2017 term. Includes 1-hour class per week for Spanish or Mandarin Chinese language acquisition programs.

Grades: PreK and Kindergarten & Elementary School

Fall 2016 term: $168 (regular), $151.20 (no additional purchase necessary)

Includes 12 classes from the week of September 12 to the week of December 5, 2016 (no class the week of Thanksgiving). If, depending on the specific day of the week, there are less than 12 classes in the term due to holidays and/or early dismissal days, and considering the above mentioned start and end date, the prince should be reduced accordingly.

Spring 2017 term: $196 (regular), $176.40 (no additional purchase necessary)

Includes 14 classes, from the week of January 30 to the week of May 8, 2017 (no class the week of spring break). If, depending on the specific day of the week, there are less than 14 classes in the term due to holidays and/or early dismissal days, and considering the above mentioned start and end date, the prince should be reduced accordingly.

  • The location, day and time of the class will be agreed on in writing between the school and/or district authorized representatives and Language Kids Houston, LLC. The maximum student/instructor ratio is 12 students per instructor. One instructor will be assigned per group. Larger groups (up to 24 students) will be assigned an instructor and an assistant instructor.

 

Tutoring programs

Each (participant) fee: $220 (regular), $209 (discounted when 4 units purchased). Includes four 1-hour Spanish or Mandarin Chinese tutoring sessions. The parent, school and/or district must pay for each registered student’s fee.

 

Pricing

Discounts

A 2% discount will be applied to payments received 15 days or less from the date the invoice was presented to the district.

There is also a 5% to 10% discount applied to the programs listed in the Form F (price schedule). See Tab 7 for more detailed information.

 

Invoicing Procedure

  1. Once a school and/or district completes an order online or by any other means allowed by the district and Language Kids Houston, LLC receives it with a corresponding purchase order from HISD, Language Kids Houston, LLC will contact the school and/or district to establish a schedule for the service.
  2. Language Kids Houston, LLC will submit an invoice to HISD within 30 days of providing goods and/or services to the District. Invoices will be submitted to:
